The history of mountain biking is exciting and incredible, full of innovation and frenetic competition. By the way, what’s a Mountain Bike? A simple off-road bike, or a purpose-built bike? An adapted or a modified bike? Joe Breeze is often credited with producing the first Mountain Bike in 1978. However, in the 1930s, first adapted Mountain Bikes appeared on US beaches, and Buffalo soldiers have been riding off-road bikes since the late 1890s. How and when Mountain Biking started is an ongoing debate, which probably comes down to what defines Mountain Biking itself.
